Canon XH-A1 is an amazing camera even though it's about 10 years old. The lens is awesome, and produces HD images comparable to some expensive new camcorder models, also in low light. Apart from amazing glass, it has 3 CCDs at 1/3 inch each, 2 external XLR connections, 20x zoom, easily accessible settings, etc. Although a bit dated now, XH-A1 has been used to shot feature films, for example "Crank 2: High Voltage" with Jason Statham. It records to Mini DV tapes that are still readily available online and relatively inexpensive, but in case you prefer to record to a card, I'm including Sony HVR-MRC 1 recording unit. This makes it more suitable to today's standards. The unit be connected to the camera via firewire port and allows you to capture video directly to CF cards (2 included). If you like, you can record to tape and card at the same time, e.g. for backup.
